Manifesting utopia
(After 'a corda do Círio') | 2010
Drawing inspiration from the 350-meter long rope used
during the procession of the Círio de Nazaré in Belém,
Kierulf is currently braiding a rope of the same length but
made from plastic shopping bags. Door-to-door collection of
the bags has given the artist the opportunity to discuss with
citizens the importance of reducing the use of plastic bags,
and other ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. As of today, 137
meters has been braided.
